Fun Day....

We had a party and craft project at the Art Clinic today. Linda brought her friends and the amazing food and Syd provided the project...sock dolls. We all had a really fun time. We would love to host more of these parties. So if you are looking for a unique way to celebrate...keep the Art Clinic in mind.

June/July classes

Painting and Mixed Media- Tues . June 8, June 22, July 13 and July 27.... Syd will be teaching. These classes will be more intense then before... because it will be 4 hours....11 to 3. You will have a break and much of the time will be for working in class. We will cover composition, some color theory and the elements and principles of design, paint and brushes, surfaces to use, collage, painting basics, encaustic and plaster surfacing and mixing it all together. When fired in a kiln or with a torch the binder is burned away leaving the metal in solid form. It can be sculpted, cast and textured to create beautiful fine jewelry. Rug Hooking with Mary Stanley both Beginning and continuing students

Sunday, February 21, 2010 10-4pm

Come learn the fun art of Rug Hooking in this one day workshop.

You will create a small rug hooked piece for a wall hanging or soft sculpture using hand dyed and recycled wool on burlap backing.

Each kit will contain a starter frame, burlap backing, wool for your project and the use of a hook for the day.

Bring sharp sewing scissors and a rug hook if you have one.

Patterns will be provided or you can draw your own.

Come join us for this day of fiber fun and leave with a new technique for creating rugs, dolls, wall hangings and pillows.

$65 includes kit for the workshop Reduced fee for continuing students.

Shrine Making Workshop with Sukey Hughes three Wednesdays left, February, 3^rd, 10^th and 17th 1:30 - 4:30 Fee $50 each class

Sukey pioneered the very popular shrine making class some years ago at Adult Ed in Santa Barbara. She now is bringing it to the Art Clinic.

Shrines can be any size and range from the sacred to the profane to the humorous to remembrance boxes. We will start with little matchbox shrines that open and shut,

with a surprise inside each “shrine.” From this we will advance to larger boxes, such as Altoid cans, cigar boxes, deep frames, pencil boxes, antique boxes, drawers, even

‘Journal Espirit’, akin to visual journaling, allows direct access to our right brain, the world of no words, but rather whole thoughts, mostly without conscious awareness of what we are doing. In ‘Journal Espirit’ participants are given prompts, usually in the form of a story, or the symbolism associated with a word to help us move more easily toward our deeper inner thoughts.

use of rust and other patinas, gold leafing, crackle glazes, photos transfers, and other
great art techniques. For the first class, matchboxes will be provided. You are
encouraged to bring your own materials too -- oriental papers, animal erasers,
holiday ephemera, vintage or family photos, hearts, lace, ribbon, keys, do-dads -- for
the first class, whatever fits in or on this 2 1/4” x 1 1/2” x 3/8” matchbox. After that
you may continue in any size that fits on the worktable! Paints, glue and unusual
papers and do-dads provided.
